A "fake US tax number" is what thousands of Arab founders search for when a platform, a bank or a payment form asks for a US tax ID. The short truth: there is no fake US tax number that works, and buying one costs money and accounts. A US company gets a real federal tax number, the EIN, from the IRS without an SSN. A person who needs a US number of their own applies for an ITIN.

This page explains what the sellers offer, why their numbers fail, and the legal route step by step. It sits under the guide to US LLC taxes for owners abroad, which covers the full tax picture.

What is a "fake US tax number", and why do Arab founders search for one?

A "fake US tax number" is a nine-digit number sold online as a shortcut to fill US tax fields without a real company or a real IRS file. Founders search for it when a form asks for a US tax ID they do not have.

The demand is real. Arabic searches for "fake US tax number" (رقم ضريبي امريكي وهمي) peaked at 1,600 per month in Egypt in August 2026(Source: DataForSEO Sep 2026). Most of these searches come from freelancers, ad publishers and store owners who hit the same wall: a US payment form with a box marked "SSN, ITIN or EIN".

The sellers answer that need with a promise. They post on social media and in groups, and they offer a number in minutes, with no documents and no company. The price is low and the pitch is simple: paste the number in the form and the money starts flowing.

The problem is that every US tax number belongs to a real person or a real company in the IRS records. A number that belongs to no one fails the checks. A number that belongs to someone else puts you on a stolen identity. Neither one gives you a company, a bank account or a clean payment history.

If you are new to US companies, read what an LLC is and how a US LLC differs from a local company before you go further.

Which US tax numbers exist, and which one does a foreign founder need?

The US has three main tax numbers: the SSN for people eligible to work in the US, the ITIN for people who need a tax number but cannot get an SSN, and the EIN for companies.

NumberWho gets itIssued byFormWhat a foreign founder uses it for
SSNUS citizens and people eligible for an SSNSocial Security AdministrationNot available to most foreign foundersNothing, you do not need it
ITINPeople who need a US tax number but cannot get an SSNIRSForm W-7A US tax return or a treaty claim in your own name
EINCompanies, including a US LLC owned from abroadIRSForm SS-4The company's bank account, Stripe, invoices and tax filings

The EIN is the number that solves most problems for an Arab founder. It is a nine-digit federal tax number that the IRS gives to a business. Non-residents get an EIN with IRS Form SS-4 without an SSN(Source: IRS Form SS-4 instructions). The IRS explains the number on its EIN page and states that the application is free.

The ITIN is a personal number. The IRS describes it on its ITIN page as a nine-digit tax processing number for people who are not eligible for an SSN. It begins with the number 9. It does not give you the right to work in the US.

Why does a fake US tax number fail with banks, Stripe and the IRS?

A fake US tax number fails because banks, payment providers and the IRS match every number against a real name and a real file. A number with no owner, or with someone else's name, breaks that match.

US banks must know who stands behind each account. Under 31 CFR 1010.230, a bank collects the identity of each person who owns 25% or more of a company and of one person who controls it. The bank compares the company name, the EIN letter and your passport. A number that appears on no IRS letter stops the file at the first step.

Payment providers check the same data. As of October 2026, Stripe asks a US company for its EIN and its legal name during onboarding, and the name must match the IRS record. A mismatch stops the verification, and Stripe asks for documents before it pays out.

Tax forms carry a legal statement. The IRS Form W-8BEN and Form W-9 are signed under penalties of perjury. Writing a number you know is false on a signed IRS form is a false statement on a federal document, not a paperwork shortcut.

What do sellers of "US tax numbers" offer, and what do you get?

Sellers of "US tax numbers" offer a random nine-digit number, a number taken from another person or company, or an EIN for a company that you do not own. None of these gives you a working account.

The first offer is a generated number. It looks right, with nine digits in the correct format, but no IRS record stands behind it. It fails at the first match.

The second offer is a borrowed number. The seller gives you an SSN, an ITIN or an EIN that belongs to someone else. Using another person's tax number is identity theft. The real owner sees income they never earned, and your account carries their name, not yours.

The third offer sounds more serious. The seller forms a company in their own name, gets an EIN, and rents you the use of it. The company, the EIN and the bank account belong to the seller. When the seller disappears or a reviewer asks for the owner's passport, you lose access to the money.

Every one of these offers shares one fact: the number is not in your name or in your company's name. A real EIN in the name of a company you own is the only number that survives a bank review, a Stripe review and an IRS check. The guide to a rejected bank application shows how a clean file reads to a bank.

How does a US LLC get a real EIN from the IRS without an SSN?

A US LLC gets a real EIN by filing IRS Form SS-4 after the state approves the company. A non-resident owner without an SSN or ITIN applies by fax or mail, and the IRS issues the number in the company's name.

The IRS publishes the form and its instructions on the Form SS-4 page. The online EIN application asks for an SSN or ITIN for the responsible party, so an owner without one files the paper form. The responsible party is you, the owner. You sign the form, and the IRS sends the confirmation letter, the CP 575 notice, to the company.

The order matters. The state forms the company first, then the IRS gives it the EIN, then the bank opens the account with both documents. No step in this order needs an SSN, a visa or a trip to the US.

StepDocumentWho issues itNeeds an SSN?
1Articles of OrganizationWyoming Secretary of StateNo
2Operating agreementYou, the ownerNo
3EIN confirmation (CP 575)IRSNo
4US business bank accountThe bankNo
5Stripe or PayPal accountStripe or PayPalNo

The EIN belongs to the company for its whole life. The IRS issues it once, and it becomes the company's permanent federal tax number. Keep the CP 575 letter with your company documents, because every bank and payment provider asks for it. The US LLC formation service files the company and the EIN application for you.

When do you need an ITIN, and how do you get one legally?

You need an ITIN when you personally must file a US tax return or claim a US tax treaty benefit and you cannot get an SSN. You apply with IRS Form W-7, in most cases attached to a federal tax return.

Many founders never need an ITIN. The company has its EIN, and the EIN covers the bank account, Stripe and the company's yearly filings. The ITIN matters when the tax form is about you, not about the company. Form W-8BEN, for example, asks for a US taxpayer number when you claim a treaty benefit.

The IRS explains the application on its Form W-7 page. The form needs proof of identity and foreign status. A passport is the only document that proves both on its own. An ITIN (Form W-7) can be processed through an IRS Certifying Acceptance Agent(Source: IRS Form W-7 instructions). The IRS Acceptance Agent Program lists these agents. A Certifying Acceptance Agent checks your original passport, so you do not mail it to the IRS.

The ITIN expires if you do not use it on a federal tax return for three consecutive years, according to the IRS ITIN page. Keep this in mind before you pay anyone to get one for you.

What should you do if you already used a fake US tax number?

If you already used a fake US tax number, stop using it, remove it from every form you can edit, and replace it with a real EIN in your company's name or a real ITIN in your own name.

Follow these steps in order:

  1. Stop using the number on any new form, invoice or application.
  2. List every place where you entered it: platforms, payment forms, bank applications and invoices.
  3. Form a US LLC and get its EIN, or apply for an ITIN if the form is about you as a person.
  4. Update each platform's tax form with the real number and the matching legal name.
  5. If a bank or payment provider closed an account, apply again with the new company file. Explain the change in plain words.
  6. Speak with a tax professional in your country and, for US filings, with a US tax preparer, before you file anything for past years.

Be honest in every new application. A clean file in the name of a real company is stronger than any explanation. If a bank rejects you, the rejection does not affect the company or the EIN, and you can apply to another bank. The guide to opening a US bank account from an Arab country lists what each bank reviews.

How do you prevent tax number problems when you form a US LLC?

You prevent tax number problems by forming the company first, getting the EIN in its name, and using the same company name and number on every bank, Stripe and platform form.

Use one legal name everywhere, exactly as it appears on the Articles of Organization and the CP 575 letter. Use one business description in every application. Keep scans of the company documents in one folder. The guide to the documents required to form a US LLC lists every file.

File the yearly US return on time. Foreign-owned single-member LLCs file Form 5472 with a pro-forma Form 1120(Source: Treas. Reg. § 1.6038A-1; IRS instructions), and the penalty for a missing Form 5472 is $25,000 per form per year(Source: IRC § 6038A(d); IRS Form 5472 instructions). The plain guide to Form 5472 explains what the form reports, and the Form 5472 filing service files it for you each year.

The EIN does not end your tax duties at home. Your country's tax authority sets the rules for the income you receive from the company. Ask a local accountant before the first payout. How does Arab LLC help you get a real EIN for your US company?

Arab LLC forms your Wyoming LLC and files the EIN application with the IRS in the company's name, with no SSN and no trip. The price is $397 service + $100 Wyoming state fee = $497 first year.

We do not sell tax numbers, and we do not rent out companies. Every company we form belongs to you, and every EIN is issued by the IRS in your company's name. The first year includes the Wyoming filing, the registered agent for year 1, the EIN, the operating agreement, and help applying for a US bank account and for Stripe.

We prepare and submit each application. The state approves the company, the IRS issues the EIN, the bank decides on the account, and Stripe or PayPal decide on the payment account. We do not promise any of those approvals, because the decisions belong to them.
